Cristiana Couceiro

Cristiana Couceiro is an illustrator living in Portugal. I really like her work as they're very expressive. Each work can differ from minimalistic to maximalist and crowded. The way she creates her work consists of a lot of different layers that are cut and put on top of each other. There is always a sense of colour scheme within each illustration which makes it very appealing and easy to see. The work I chose on the right is one of my favourites out of her work because of the details that are put together that make it very aesthetically pleasing. This is a photo was used for the New York Times talking about baseball. I liked the use of red on the transparent baseballer and the green triangle on the bottom right to signify the back of the home base and compliment the colour of the red. The pen scribbles are also very interesting to me because it doesn't make any sense but it's scribbled in a way that it draws attention to the middle of the subject. It doesn't draw a lot of attention away from what it's trying to present even though there are very random hearts, stars and faces within it. Words like Griffey and hero are pretty obvious and connected to the person as he's Ken Griffey Jr. and was known as a baseball hero. I liked the scribbles of the circular lines as they contrasted the harsh lines from the triangle and the angle from the person standing and bent over.
